General Motors (GM) announced that he will transfer from Mexico to the US the manufacture of two models and that during the next few years he will invest 4,000 million dollars in three American plants to increase production in the country.

The increase in production is detrimental to the production in Mexico of the Chevrolet Blazer and Chevrolet Equinox models, which are currently assembled in Ramos Arizpe and San Luis Potosí plants.

GM pointed out in a statement that Orion plants (Michigan), Fairfax (Kansas) and Spring Hill (Tennessee) will receive investments that will increase the production of company vehicles in the US to 2 million a year.

In Orion, GM will produce from 2027 ‘pick-up’ trucks of gasoline, both large and light. The decision assumes that the Zero Factory that GM has in Detroit-Hamtramck will be dedicated to the production of electric trucks and the Chevrolet Silverado Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ and GMC Hummer EV.

The Fairfax plant will manufacture the gasoline chevrolet equinex from mid -2027, in addition to the Chevrolet Bolt EV.

And Spring Hill will add the production of Chevrolet Blazer in 2027 to the manufacture of Cadillac Lyriq EV, VIETIQ EV and Cadillac XT5.

The decision of the transfer of the production of Blazer and Equinox to the US occurs after President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariffs on the automobile sector of Mexico and Canada.
