Meta Platforms announced the introduction of a translation function for its WhatsApp messaging service, with the aim of facilitating conversations in several languages among its more than 3,000 million users.
Translations will initially be available in six languages on Android devices and in 19 languages on iPhone, which will follow more languages.
“Message translations were designed to protect the privacy of your chats. That is why the translations are made on your device, where WhatsApp cannot see them,” Meta explained in a blog.

Users can press on a message and play “translate” to see any message in another language. The function works for personal and group chats, as well as channel updates.
Android users can also activate the automatic translation of an entire conversation thread so that future messages translate by default.
