The Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) on Wednesday requested that the rights and integrity of their nationals traveling in the Sumud Global Fleet, which aimed to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza, are respected.

The flotilla, composed of more than 40 ships and more than 500 bold volunteers from coasts of Mediterranean countries, such as Spain, Tunisia and Italy, has been surrounded this afternoon by Israeli ships when it was about 80 nautical miles from Gaza.

In a statement on the current situation of the flotilla, in which Mexican people participate, the SRE reports that the Mexico Embassy in Israel has already requested consular access to the authorities of that country “and asked to ensure that their rights and integrity are respected at all times, in accordance with applicable international law.”

The Mexican Foreign Ministry recalled that it has been maintained since September 2, date when the flotilla sailed from Barcelona, in permanent contact with the region’s embassies and with the relatives.

The Mexicans who participate in this initiative are: Carlos Pérez Osorio, Ernesto Ledesma Arronte, Sol González Eguía, Arlín Gabriela Medrano Guzmán, Laura Alejandra Veléz Ruiz Gaitán, Miriam Moreno Sánchez and Diego Vázquez Galindo.

Its purpose is none other than to offer humanitarian aid. They are solidarity, peaceful and committed to peace, without linking with violent groups, the SRE pointed out.

The Foreign Ministry made a new call to respect international law, international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

In total 50 vessels and around 500 activists from 48 countries make up the ‘Sumud Global’ flotilla. The Israeli Foreign Ministry reported that several flotilla ships have been “arrested without problem” and that their passengers are being transferred to an Israeli port.

The international flotilla was in the so -called “high risk zone” decreed by Israel, starting at 150 nautical miles on the coast of the Palestinian enclave (about 240 kilometers).

At that point it is where previous floats have been attacked or intercepted.

The first intercepted ship was the soul, one of the main mission and where the activist Greta Thunberg was traveling.

The Global Sumud Flotilla had denounced on Wednesday an “intimidating operation” by Israel, after an Israeli warship surrounded “aggressively”, during the early morning, one of its main vessels in international waters.

On September 22, President Claudia Sheinbaum said that the country would lead to the 80 United Nations General Assembly “a peace posture” and recognition of the states of Israel and Palestine, while denounced the need for the “genocide” to stop in the Gaza Strip.

Sheinbaum has insisted that the country’s foreign policy is aimed at peace, non -intervention and self -determination of peoples.

In 2012, Mexico voted in favor of the resolution of the General Assembly that recognized Palestine as a “United Nations Observer State” and, in 2013, it was the first time that a Palestinian ambassador presented its official credentials before the Mexican Executive, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

An independent UN Commission, Human Rights, NGOs and a growing number of countries qualify the Israeli military offensive against the enclave, in which more than 65,200 Palestinians have already died, including more than 19,000 children.
