President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that her government filed complaints with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for cases of corruption detected in Infonavit.
Many cases of corruption come from collaboration between the general directorates of workers and employers, but not all are involved, he declared in his morning conference.
He said that he instructed Infonavit to work with the Legal Counsel of the Presidency to present the corresponding criminal complaints to the prosecutor’s office.
Octavio Romero Oropeza, director of the institute, who attended the conference, revealed that significant problems have been found in several housing construction projects.
The official explained that Infonavit has a portfolio of 6.2 million loans, of which 4 million were granted under irregular conditions. Although the beneficiaries paid interest and principal, their credits increased constantly.
Romero Oropeza explained that two thirds of the Infonavit portfolio are in this situation, which he described as a serious problem.
He also mentioned that, following Sheinbaum’s instruction, 510 thousand credits were frozen and additional benefits were granted.

He also pointed out that many homes were delivered without basic services and with deficiencies in their construction, which he considered unacceptable.
Regarding corruption cases, Romero Oropeza highlighted María “N”, who served as manager of Credit Products, and mentioned the company SOLIMEX for conflicts of interest.
Sheinbaum stressed that these frauds and acts of corruption have seriously affected workers.
He stated that the reform to the Infonavit Law seeks to strengthen the institution to guarantee that credits are used correctly and that workers receive quality housing, eliminating corrupt schemes.
