The Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency (ATDT) anticipates savings of 35 million pesos annually with the creation of the Satellite Image Processing Center.
The state agency stated in a statement that the facility will cover 50% of the government’s geospatial information needs, mainly for the agricultural sector, urban planning and security, thereby avoiding the purchase of images of the national territory.
He indicated that the center will have the capacity to distribute and analyze satellite images for high-resolution Earth observation, and will be at the service of federal institutions, local governments and public universities so that they have accurate and updated data without depending on third parties.

“It is expected that in the future it will be applied to urban planning, marine conservation, in addition to the optimization of the agricultural sector and natural resources,” the agency stated.
He added that the development of an analysis, distribution and Earth observation platform that will offer the visualization and management of the images is also contemplated. The design and functionalities have already been defined and it is expected that it will be ready during 2026.
“This effort is complemented by satellite projects, a long-term vision that seeks technological sovereignty and additional savings of 150 million pesos annually and will expand the fields of employment and research in the scientific and technological field,” he indicated.
