After President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo presented the project of an electric car manufacturer that would be designed throughout her six-year term for the Mexican market, manufacturers and sellers in the automotive sector expressed the importance of working together on a comprehensive electromobility policy.
In a position sent after a consultation by Forbes, the members of the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) stated that President Claudia Sheinbaum’s initiative to manufacture connectable cars shows the importance of the electromobility agenda for the current government, without However, they said that the issue must be addressed considering private initiative.

“It must be a priority to work together on a comprehensive public policy on electromobility that considers the issue from its broadest perspective,” said the association of companies that represents car manufacturers and sellers in Mexico.
In the development of this comprehensive Electromobility public policy, the production and export of new technology vehicles and their components must be promoted, they said.
Also, the sector said that the adoption of these technologies in the Mexican market must be promoted considering the needs and possibilities of the consumer and work must be done on an agenda for the charging infrastructure that is required for the use of these new technologies.
At the presentation of the project by the electric car manufacturer Olinia, on January 6, president Claudia Sheinbaum explained that the development of the prototypes will be done in conjunction with the IPN and the National Technology of Mexico.
For the assembly of the units, the president said in her conference, “a competition will probably have to be opened to see which private company offers the best conditions to be able to build it.”
Likewise, the president said that they will seek to ensure that Olinia’s electric car can be plugged into a conventional socket, although this technology is not currently available on the market.
