ACAPULCO, Guerrero.- The Ministry of Economy (SE) assured that the mining industry will invest 7 billion dollars once environmental permits that were stopped are authorized.

“By approving the 176 permits we will easily reach 7 billion dollars of investment in the industry,” says Fernando Aboitiz, head of the agency’s Extractive Activities Coordination Unit.

“Investment in mining projects is good for the country, but we are ensuring that it complies with the entire agenda of the President of the Republic in the social and environmental part,” said the official within the framework of the XXXVI International Mining Convention 2025, Mining united by Mexico.

“The President of the Republic has asked us to go to the communities and ask them if they are being very sensitive to the people, because mining should help and not harm,” he added.

He pointed out that there is very fluid communication with the mining industry: “When there is a problem, it is resolved by talking.”

He added that the government’s concern is that the communities where the mines are located are treated with dignity, and that prosperity is shared with the general population.

Another action is that the ejidos are respected and the environmental issue in the long term is not a great liability, but rather that it be remedied and in some things improved.

“The mining industry has told us that during the period where there were no permits it has been very hard, because it put the continuity of operations at risk and today the approval of the permits is progressing,” he said.

He pointed out that the secretariat has already delivered 100 permits of the 175 applications from the mining industry that were pending approval to make mineral extraction viable.

“We are beginning to look at a different perspective and we have already reached a midpoint with the mining industry,” he explained.

“It’s not that we don’t want mining, what we want is for it to be social mining, so if we accomplish that we will move forward and here we go,” he concluded.
