The Government certified Tuesday Taruk, the first fully designed and manufactured electric bus, as part of its strategy to strengthen the national electromobility industry and reduce import dependence on tariffs promoted by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

The vehicle, in charge of Mexican companies MegaFlux and Dina, was presented at a ceremony headed by the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, who indicated that Taruk not only represents a technological innovation, but also a “strategic decision” for the country’s industrial sovereignty before a complex and protectionist international context.

The bus was designed with 100% national engineering and manufactured to adapt to public transport conditions in the 60 main cities of Mexico.

Taruk, which means Road Runners in the Yaqui Language, was also part of the joint development with academic institutions such as the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM) and the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation.

This vehicle has capacity for 60 passengers, half seated, and a completely electric propulsion system with autonomy exceeding 300 kilometers and a complete load in a maximum of four hours.

Altagracia Gómez, coordinator of the Regional Economic Development Advisory Council and Relocation (Cader), recalled that this project began to take shape when the current president Claudia Sheinbaum was head of the Government of Mexico City, and pointed out that Taruk seeks to compete with any model of Asian brands, which currently dominate the market.
