MEXICO CITY (EFE) .- A total of 570 legislative and public policy proposals for relatives and groups of missing persons were incorporated into a reform to the general law in the field of forced disappearance of persons, disappearance committed by individuals and the National System of Search for Persons, the Ministry of the Interior reported Monday.

In Mexico, there are more than 127,000 missing and not located people, according to figures from the National Registry of missing and not located (RNPDNO) that counts the disappearances since the 1950s.

Among the proposals are: protocols with security and protection plans for seeking families, immediate and mandatory registration of disappearance reports by any authority, research folders initiated without delay and sanctions to authorities that omit records or investigations.

In addition to the creation of the single identity, safe and traceable platform, agreement with the National Electoral Institute (INE) – whose identification serves in all the country – to share data with prosecutors, decent treatment and updated registration of remains low institutional protection and mandatory genetic and dactyl tests before inhumations, among many others.

This Monday, at a press conference, the progress report of the dialogue tables on care and implementation of actions of the Government of Mexico was presented for the disappearance of people, as well as on the search and identification mechanisms.

The event was reported that more than 450 groups and networks participated in the dialogues, representing 1,042 people.

In her speech, the head of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, indicated that the reform initiative “is the result of a joint, transparent and sensitive work with whom they lead the search for their loved ones.”

She recalled that President Claudia Sheinbaum asked to attend “as a priority of the Government of Mexico” the search, location and identification of people and added that the State is clear about its obligations to prevent, investigate, sanction, repair and guarantee “the non -repetition of such unfortunate events.”

Rodríguez said that the initiative is strengthened “with the perspective and position of the victims, related to the axes of search and security, forensic human identification, databases and information systems, well -being and prevention.

In addition, he pointed out that this process does not end with the legislative proposal and now the concrete actions in public policy, regulations, budgets and mechanisms for the participation of the groups continue.

Since the Sheinbaum government began, on October 1, 2024, as of April 15, 2025, there have been more than 8,000 new cases in Mexico, an average of 40 daily disappearances in the country and seven in the capital, according to government data.
