The Ministry of Economy reported that its head, Marcelo Ebrard, supported the Master Plan for the Development of the Semiconductor Industry in Mexico 2024-2030, which aims to double this industry at the end of the six-year term.

The plan was presented by the “Mexico-States Semiconductor Collaboration Forum”, a binational group that brings together leading companies, officials from the United States Embassy, members of twenty associations related to the sector and academics from both countries.

“Having an advanced semiconductor industry is vital for Mexico to achieve the high levels of development to which we aspire; this is decisive. We have to be successful together with the United States to solve this,” said Secretary Ebrard.

The coordinator of the forum, Carlos Rebellón, explained that the master plan consists of a set of public policies, cooperation measures, investments and developments, whose objective is to double investment, consumption and national content in the industry and place Mexico ” in the elite of sophisticated economies.”

He added that the plan contemplates Mexico’s participation in the chain in areas of design, assembly, packaging, testing and downstream integration, which would be a perfect complement to what the industry does in the United States.

During the meeting, the collaboration between the Forum and Semiconductor Alliance Mexico, a group that trains more than 7,000 teachers on the subject of semiconductors, was also announced.
