The Ministry of Economy began consultations to 30 relevant productive sectors in relation to the review of the United Mexican-Canadá (TMEC) Treaty for 2026.

The meetings, which will be held during October with the support of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), have “the objective that the Government has a broad and correct diagnosis on the vision and priorities of productive sectors,” he collected a statement issued by the SE.

The message informs that the consultations will be carried out at the headquarters of the Secretariat “they are already summoned industrial associations, business chambers, diverse companies and other relevant actors.”

In these meetings, the first in which the Executive meets with the private sector, they agreed to “work together so that the consultations are broad, representative and serve to be better prepared as a country in the face of the challenge that will be the review of the TMEC”.

In addition, it was reported that in the coming weeks there will be consultation forums in the 32 entities with the intention of listening to the priorities of the strategic sectors of the states.

For the review of the commercial treaty that involves the countries of North America, the Ministry of Economy “will be accompanied and supported by the CCE” to offer a representation of the country’s productive sectors.

The president of the CCE, Francisco Alberto Cervantes Díaz, explained that “for the Mexican private sector, the review of the TMEC represents an opportunity to consolidate the competitiveness of our country and strengthen the integration of our productive chains in North America.”

Among the sectors to consultation are that of heavy and light vehicles, auto parts, mining, financial services, agribusiness, steel and aluminum, energy and petrochemical, footwear, textile and dress and the pharmaceutical sector, among others.

After the statements of the American commercial representative, Jamieson Greer, who on Tuesday said that the negotiations for the revision of the TMEC “probably” are bilateral, the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, said that “perhaps what the ambassador refers to is that in the negotiation of the treaty there is a high bilateral content.”
