The Government of Mexico, through the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC) and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), reported this Monday that the surveillance teams sent to the states of Hidalgo, Veracruz and Puebla “verify and evaluate possible damage” after the passage of the Cold Front 13.
On Saturday, Mexico installed several surveillance posts due to a forecast of torrential rains in the states of Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas and Tabasco, and intense rains in Puebla, Campeche and Quintana Roo, issued by the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
According to the SMN, Cold Front number 13 entered during the night of this Saturday and early hours of Sunday over the north and northeast of Mexico, driven by an arctic air mass, which would possibly cause intense rains, strong winds and a marked drop in temperature in various regions of the country.
In a joint statement, the CNPC and the SSPC pointed out that in Hidalgo “minimal effects” were reported and in 34 municipalities the preventive suspension of classes was determined due to the weather conditions.
They also indicated in the municipality of Tianguistengo “a hillside slide was controlled” with the support of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT).
In Veracruz it was indicated that due to the passage of the Cold Front “during the early morning and morning of this Monday, scattered to moderate rains were recorded, accompanied by gusts of strong wind in the coastal area, as well as a drop in temperature in the mountainous regions.”

The report noted that the municipalities with the highest record of activity were Coatzacoalcos, where strong winds occurred without effects; Nanchital de Lázaro Cárdenas del Río, Moloacán, Agua Dulce, Las Choapas and Minatitlán and so far, minimal damage has been reported.”
It was stated that federal, state and municipal authorities maintain verification tours in risk areas, permanent monitoring of rivers and streams, to review operating procedures in the event of possible increases in flows.
Meanwhile, in Puebla it was reported that, during the early morning, light rains were recorded in most of the state, in the center of the country.
“There is no relevant damage,” the note indicated and the authorities maintain constant review in risk areas due to landslides, as well as verification tours and alert actions for the population.
In addition, the preventive suspension of classes was determined at all educational levels in the municipalities of Teziutlán and Tlatlauquitepec due to low temperatures.
The CNPC called on the population to stay informed through official sources and follow the recommendations of local authorities. Likewise, he recalled that, after heavy rains, it is recommended to avoid crossing rivers, streams or streets with flowing water.
Just last Thursday, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported that talks are being held with families affected by the catastrophic rains in October, whose homes are in areas at high risk of flooding, so that they can be housed in other areas.
The heavy rains left 83 people dead and 16 missing in Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro and Veracruz. The Government estimated that some 100,000 homes were affected.
