The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, said that the Government will expect the official publication of American tariffs recently announced by President Donald Trump to heavy vehicles and pharmaceutical products, among others, before taking a position on them.
“There are tariffs announced, but not published yet. There are many who have just announced, so I prefer that, when they are published, see what each one is about and that it includes. Then we will set a position on it,” he explained before the media after the event minds in action in Mexico City.
Ebrard said that Mexico is in communication with the US Secretary of Commerce, Howerd Lutnick, “to see exactly what each of those provisions includes,” although he pointed out that “sometimes they are not clear or the technical areas.”

After the statements of the American commercial representative, Jamieson Greer, on Tuesday about the fact that the treaty revision negotiations between Mexico, the United States and Canada (TMEC) “probably” in the face of 2026 are bilateral, the secretary said that these “always have a bilateral high content for a natural reason.”
“Perhaps what the ambassador refers to is that in the negotiation of the treaty there is a high bilateral content. It is inevitable and there are other content that are trilateral, for example, trilateral dispute solution system,” he said.
Before the tariff to steel and Mexican aluminum, Ebrard announced that on Tuesday he will have conversations with the counterparts “and surely soon” he will have to go visit them, although he determined that Mexican concerns are based on the fact that “they must respect what is established in the treaty.”
