The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, filed a demand for defamation of 787 million dollars against Fox News on Friday, claiming that the chain defamed him in the coverage of his telephone conversation with Donald Trump related to the president’s migratory measures.
The lawsuit filed before the Superior Court of Delaware accuses Fox of demonstrating “his willingness to protect President Trump from his own false statements by defamed his political opponent, Governor Newsom, in a dispute about when they both spoke for the last time.”
Newsom’s punitive damage request is almost identical to the 787.5 million dollars that Fox paid in 2023 to resolve the Dominion Voting Systems demand on the alleged electoral fraud in the US presidential elections of 2020.
According to The New York Times, Newsom would withdraw the lawsuit if Fox issues a retraction and presenter Jesse Watters apologizes on Antena by saying that the governor lied about his conversation with Trump.

Fox did not respond immediately to the requests for comments and the Newsom office either.
According to the complaint, Newsom spoke on the phone with Trump late in June 6, shortly after the protests broke out in Los Angeles after federal immigration raids.
Trump later sent troops from the National Guard and 700 Marine Infants to the State, overlooking the governor.
Newsom said he did not talk to Trump again, and ratified him after the president falsely told journalists on June 10 that he had spoken with the governor “a day ago.”
The complaint says that Fox, however, made a deceptive video clip and multiple false statements about the time of the last call, acting malicious in an effort to cross out Newsom as a liar and win Trump’s favor.
