The governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, trusts that the federal administration will establish the production of Olinia electric cars in the entity.

“The state of Sonora has very important comparative advantages. 75% of the supply chain for assembling a vehicle is already established in the state of Sonora. Consequently, I will offer that for the manufacturing of the Olinia car,” he declared this Friday according to the Proyecto Puente media outlet.

The president added that he will seek to have the electric battery manufacturer Foxconn build a factory in Ciudad Obregón, which would increase the chances that the project announced by President Claudia Sheinbaum this week will be installed in Sonora.

During the presentation of the project on Monday, coordinator Roberto Capuano clarified that the federal government has not yet defined where the plant will be established.

“We are actively in conversations with the different states that already have manufacturing in the state; This month we are going to be in Puebla, we are going to be in Hermosillo (…) in Sonora, sorry, in the city of Hermosillo, evaluating and learning about the different capacities that exist, he declared.

In a separate communication, the entity highlighted that mineral wealth and the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan consolidate the state as a reference in the development of sustainable projects in the mining and automotive industries.

The governor pointed out that the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan will give added value to primary production and that the mineral resources extracted in the entity will be used in projects such as Olinia.
