It’s been over a year since Dune: Prophecy last aired on HBO, and a major new production update for season 2 has now been revealed.

Taking to Instagram, makeup artist Kate Benton revealed that filming for Dune: Prophecy season 2 has come to an end.

She praised the cast and crew for creating a “fun” environment, despite “some scorching hot days and freezing nights.” Benton included a carousel of photos in her post featuring several people who worked on the production.

“That’s a wrap on season 2 of Dune Prophecy Season 2. What an amazing cast and crew – it’s been a lot of fun, with some scorching hot days and freezing nights – and lots of miniature ducks.”

In the comments section, cast member Indira Varma, who joined the cast for Dune: Prophecy season 2, replied with several red heart emojis.

Dune: Prophecy is a prequel of the hit Denis Villeneuve-directedspace opera films Dune, Dune: Part Two and the upcoming Dune: Part Three, which arrives in theaters on December 18. Based on the sci-fi novels by Frank Herbert, Dune stars Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, who sets out to oversee the planet Arrakis and ends up leading a rebellion.

The first film grossed $410 million at the global box office, with the sequel, Dune: Part Two, surpassing its predecessor three years later by earning $715 million. Both installments are Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with critic scores of 83% and 92%, respectively.

During awards season, Dune and Dune: Part Two scored several wins at the Oscars, including for Best Original Score, Best Sound, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Visual Effects.

HBO eventually greenlit a six-episode spinoff series, which premiered in November 2024 and starred Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Mark Strong, Jade Anouka, Josh Heuston, Aoife Hinds and Mark Addy.

Alison Schapker serves as showrunner on the prequel, which is inspired by Great Schools of Dune, alongside producers Diane Ademu-John, Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert, Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, Anna Foerster and John Shiban.

Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,000 years before the movies and centers on two sisters (played by Watson and Williams) whose rise to power in the Bene Gesserit sisterhood is threatened, as they attempt to protect everything they’ve created from being wiped out.

The first season, which earned a 65% score on Rotten Tomatoes, earned production design, costume, music and visual effects nominations at the Creative Arts Emmys, and won Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Television at the Costume Designers Guild Awards.

The eight-episode second season began filming in Jordan, Hungary and Jordan in fall 2025. While a premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, the series is expected to return sometime in 2026, which is shaping up to be a big year for HBO.

Aside from Dune: Prophecy, the premium cable network will also air Euphoria season 3, House of the Dragon season 3 and Harry Potter season 1.
