HBO Max subscribers have plenty of great streaming options this weekend, including the world premiere of a 6-part thriller series and new episodes of top trending hits across various genres. For the weekend of March 27–29, 2026, these four series are becoming the most viral, critically acclaimed, and popular new streaming shows that are building momentum and gaining attention right now.
From one of HBO Max’s best original series of all time that’s still worth watching since its season 2 debut back in January to a fan-favorite comedy series starring Steve Carell that’s become a breakout streaming hit, these four series represent the very best of HBO’s current streaming slate. Whether you’re looking for a comedy, drama, or thriller, Screen Rant has you covered with what to watch on HBO Max right now.
Privileges
The most anticipated new release on HBO Max this week is the global premiere of the 6-part HBO original thriller series Privileges. Set inside The Citadel, a luxurious hotel in Paris, the story follows Adèle Charki (Manon Bresch), a young woman who is incarcerated. Adèle gets a new lease on life through a day-release program, working as a bellhop at The Citadel, where she quickly discovers a shadowy criminal underworld.
Combining classic French noir with a psychological thriller, Privileges is a tense survival story about power struggles, corporate manipulation, and a chance at redemption. Adèle must quietly face off against members of the wealthy elite as they fight for control against a dangerous criminal network. Each of Privileges’ six episodes is roughly 52 minutes long and will be released weekly throughout April 2026.
Rooster
Rooster has been one of the most popular and well-received new HBO series this March, landing a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 88% for its debut season. The dramedy series was created by Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Shrinking) and stars Steve Carell as a successful novelist named Greg Russo. Though Greg is famous for his mystery books, which follow a private investigator named Rooster, he finds himself out of touch with culture, people, and himself.
The story begins when Greg visits his adult daughter, Katie (Charly Clive), who is an art history professor at a liberal arts college. Katie’s life turns upside down when her husband Archie (Phil Dunster) leaves her for a grad student. Katie’s response to this shocking betrayal ends up putting her in hot water with the college’s president, Walter Mann (John C. McGinley), which forces Greg to cut a deal to bail Katie out.
DTF St. Louis
DTF St. Louis is another streaming hit on HBO Max that premiered in early March 2026. Starring Jason Bateman, Linda Cardellini, David Harbour, and more, the 7-part dark comedy series centers on a twisted love triangle and a mysterious murder set in a typically peaceful Missouri suburb. The series also earned a Certified Fresh 88% Rotten Tomatoes score and is perfect for fans of edgy comedies with crime thriller elements like Jon Hamm’s Apple TV series Your Friends & Neighbors.
DTF St. Louis follows Clark Forrest (Bateman) and Floyd Smernitch (Harbour), two middle-aged friends who feel uninspired by life. In order to spice things up, Clark convinces Floyd to join a dating app for married people looking for affairs, aptly called DTF St. Louis. From there, the plot switches timelines before and after a pivotal murder to tell its story. The series finale will air on April 12, making now a great time to dive in.
The Pitt
The Pitt continues to be the #1 most-watched series on HBO Max and has proven with its second season that it is set to be one of the greatest HBO original series of all time. The Emmy-winning medical drama stars Noah Wyle of ER fame as Dr. Robby, a senior attending doctor at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. It is widely considered the best new show of 2025.
The Pitt, which earned a near-perfect 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, brilliantly chronicles one 15-hour shift in each season, providing an intense and authentic view of the reality of a modern emergency room. With only four episodes left in season 2, this weekend is a good time to start watching The Pitt if you’ve been waiting for a binge on HBO Max.
