Heart diseases, diabetes mellitus and malignant tumors were the three leading causes of death nationwide in 2024, for both women and men, according to Inegi data.
Starting in fourth position, there are differences in the 10 main causes of death, between the total and by sex, the institute stated.
Last year, 819,672 registered deaths were recorded, 2.5% more than in 2023. The data was obtained from the death certificates provided by the Civil Registry Offices and the Forensic Medical Services.
The information was complemented with death certificates from the Civil Registry and with statistical notebooks provided by the Public Ministry Agencies.
The gross rate registered per 100,000 inhabitants was 630, an increase of 11 units compared to the previous year.
Of the total deaths registered, 44% corresponded to women and 55.9% to men. In 592 cases (0.1%) the sex was not specified.

When considering the total number of cases, without distinguishing by sex, the five main causes of death in 2024 were:
- heart diseases
- Diabetes mellitus
- Malignant tumors
- Liver diseases
- Accidents
