The deputy secretary general of Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, affirmed this Tuesday that the Shiite group can attack “any point” in Israel within the framework of its “right to defend itself,” after the Jewish State began a bombing campaign at the end of September. massive against Lebanon.

“As the Israeli enemy targeted the entire Lebanon, we have the right to defend ourselves, and we will target any point of the Israeli enemy entity in any area, both in the center and in the north and south,” Qassem said in a televised speech, in which he showed a more belligerent tone than in previous ones.

This is the third time that the religious has spoken after the assassination on September 27 of Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah, although this time he did not suggest that the group has decided who will be his successor at the head of the armed formation.

According to Qassem, for a week Hezbollah has begun a “new” phase of conflict with Israel that consists of “causing pain to the enemy” by launching projectiles against the northern Israeli city of Haifa and other towns further south, although he insisted on that the group attacks military targets.

“We fight as resistance, with honor, and we have your Army as our objective. “They kill with cruelty and dishonor and target women, children, the elderly, hospitals, humanitarian aid and all civilians,” said the cleric, who insisted that Hezbollah’s desire is to reach a ceasefire.

“I tell the Israeli home front that the solution is a ceasefire. We are not speaking from a position of weakness, but if the Israelis do not want (a truce) we will continue (with the attacks),” Qassem asserted.

The Hezbollah official recalled that a cessation of hostilities would allow “the return of settlers to the north” of Israel, since the Israeli Government alleges that its war against the Shiite movement has the objective of returning some 60,000 displaced people to their homes.

“But with the continuation of the war, the uninhabited colonies will increase, and more than two million (people) will be in the circle of danger,” Qassem warned, adding that “Hezbollah is strong, despite the cruel attacks” inflicted on the group in the last month.

At the end of his speech, the cleric assured the Lebanese that Hezbollah will collaborate with the country’s authorities and other groups to “rebuild” the areas hit by Israel’s bombings, while appealing to “the unity of the homeland” in a moment of tension between the 18 sects that coexist in Lebanon.

“We and you are in the same boat, we are a family. We know that the sacrifice is great, but we have to endure and be patient,” concluded Hezbollah’s number two.
