Homicides in Mexico fell 24.9% in the first seven months of the presidency of Claudia Sheinbaum, a period in which more than 20,000 arrested for high -impact crimes and more than 153 tons of confiscated drugs, according to the government with preliminary figures.
The daily average murders descended to 65.3 in April compared to September 86.9, 2024, the last month of the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), which implies 21 homicides less per day, said Marcela Figueroa, head of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
“Between April 2020, the year with the highest April of the series, and April 2025 had a reduction of 33.3%. The second relevant data is that April 2025 is April with the lowest daily average since 2016, which shows the clear downward trend that this crime has had,” said the official at the daily conference of the Government.
The head of the SESNSP explained that seven of the 32 entities concentrate 52.1% of the homicides in these seven months, a total of 4,569: Guanajuato, Baja California, State of Mexico, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Jalisco and Guerrero.
On the other hand, he reported a 19.25% decrease in high -impact crimes in the first seven months of Sheinbaum government.

In addition, in the first seven months of the government, the authorities arrested 20,004 people for high -impact crimes, Omar García Harfuch, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, reported.
They also confiscated more than 153.7 tons of drugs, including 1,406 kilograms of fentanyl and more than 2.24 million pills of this synthetic narcotic, as well as almost 10,329 firearms, explained García Harfuch.
“In 19 states of the Republic, the Army and the Navy have destroyed 896 clandestine laboratories and concentration areas for the elaboration of methamphetamines. In these actions more than 1 million liters and more than 200 tons of chemical substances have been stored,” he added.
He said that this is “an unprecedented figure” that represents an economic affectation to criminal organizations “hundreds of millions of pesos.”
