Amazon’s second Prime-member exclusive event, Prime Big Deal Days, runs from October 7 to 8 this year. Similar to the official Prime Day in the summer, this sale offers exclusive discounts on millions of items across the site.
If you’re looking to start your holiday shopping early — and over one-third of shoppers are this year, says RetailMeNot — Prime Big Deal Days is perfectly on time.
Here are five tips to save on Prime Big Deal Days.
Take advantage of the Prime Visa
One of the best ways to save while doing your Amazon shopping is to check out using a Prime Visa (see rates and fees) and earn up to 5% back on your purchases. The 5% cash back also applies to Amazon Fresh purchases and your shopping at Whole Foods, too. While the card does require a Prime membership, the card itself doesn’t have any annual fee, plus you’ll earn extra cash back at restaurants, gas stations and more.
Perhaps the biggest selling point: When Prime members are approved for the Prime Visa, they’ll instantly get a $150 Amazon gift card. Since most online applications receive a response within 15 seconds, you can quickly apply, get approved and use your new gift card during Prime Big Deal Days.
The Prime Visa is only available to Amazon Prime members ($139 for an annual membership and $14.99 for a monthly membership) but is very rewarding for Amazon purchases.
- High rate of return at Amazon and Whole Foods
- Easy-to-earn welcome bonus
- Requires an Amazon Prime membership
- If you choose the promo APR you won’t earn rewards on those purchases

Get a discounted Prime membership
While Prime Big Deal Days is exclusive to Prime members, there are a few ways to get a discounted or trial membership, so you can still get access to the sales.

Compare prices before buying
Since the prices of Amazon items tend to shift a lot, it can be helpful to see the history of an item’s price over time, so you know when you’re getting the best deal.
The program allows you to import your entire wishlist from Amazon, meaning you can take all the items you’ve been saving via your account and track them more easily.

Don’t rush the shipping
While Prime Big Deal Days offers some great discounts, you might not need every item you’re buying in the one- to two-day delivery window Prime offers, and delaying them can earn you rewards.
If you select “no-rush shipping” at checkout, you’ll receive either an immediate discount to your current order or a reward deposited into your account for a future purchase. While all shoppers can opt for a discount, only Prime members are eligible to earn rewards.
The rewards you receive will apply to a specific type of item, indicated at checkout before choosing. Those items can vary from video downloads, to Kindle, eBooks, digital music and more. While you might not be getting a large sum of money back each time, getting paid to wait an extra few days for something you don’t need right away could be simple money.
Use your additional Prime benefits
While some of the main perks of an Amazon Prime membership are the faster shipping and access to exclusive sales, it comes with a lot more than just that.
For football lovers, Amazon Prime carries exclusive access to Thursday Night Football. For those who might prefer a good book during the game, Prime members get a monthly free Kindle book from the editors’ picks. Prime Video is also home to a ton of different movies, TV shows, live sports and more, plus you’ll receive complimentary access to Amazon Music, which might be easier than paying for Spotify.
Your Prime Membership comes with a complimentary Grubhub+ membership, offering unlimited $0 food delivery fees, exclusive savings and more, perfect for keeping costs low while still dining “out.”
Taking advantage of these overlooked benefits can help your Amazon Prime membership deliver you more value and help you save on future purchases.
