Teen Wolf‘s Dylan O’Brien and Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams are colliding in a new thriller.
O’Brien is known for appearing in the teen supernatural series Teen Wolf as the fan-favorite character Stiles, while Williams is still reeling after his performance in Heated Rivalry as Shane Hollander. While O’Brien is more established as an actor, Williams has become a hot commodity after his record-breaking and first major role in the hit Canadian hockey series.
Deadline has reported that O’Brien and Williams have signed on to star in a dark comedy thriller titled Apparatus from Canadian actress Sofia Banzhaf in her directorial debut. Banzhaf is known for Dream Scenario and Bitten, and while mainly pursuing acting roles, has decided to take on the challenge of directing her first feature film.
The script has been written by Banzhaf and Grayson Moore (known for Cardinals), and it follows Tyler (played by Williams), who is struggling as a young rideshare driver, and he suddenly falls under the spell of a self-styled entrepreneur named JP (played by O’Brien), who sells Tyler a dream and offers him a future in his handheld massager business. However, things take a sinister and violent turn.
Producers joining Banzhaf’s Apparatus include Julie Baldassi of Younger Daughter Films, Daniel Bekerman of Scythia Films, Banzhaf, Moore, and Brian Robertson. No production dates have been announced, nor has an official release date.
O’Brien has been appearing in some major roles across his career, including Maze Runner, Twinless, and his latest role alongside Rachel McAdams in Sam Raimi’s dark comedy horror Send Help, which earned critical acclaim and a 93% Rotten Tomatoes rating. The actor has two upcoming projects, including Marceau and Being Heumann, and just won a Sundance Jury Award and a Spirit Award nomination for Twinless and Send Help.
Williams is also facing major success after the release of HBO and Crave’s Heated Rivalry, which has already been renewed for a second season. The actor starred alongside Connor Storrie in the queer hockey series, which has skyrocketed the pair into stardom, with Williams set for a few upcoming projects, including Yaga, The Altruists, Rancid, Sheepskin, Encore, 8, and Yoko Lolo.
Apparatus doesn’t have an official release date at the time of writing.
