The Tropical Bárbara cyclone, the second storm of the cyclones season, has evolved on Monday category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale off the coast of Jalisco and Colima, in the Mexican Pacific, as reported on Monday the National Meteorological Service (SMN).

The system is located 240 kilometers south-southwest of Playa Péro, Jalisco, already 245 kilometers southwest of Manzanillo, Colima, according to the most recent update of the Agency of the National Water Commission (Conagua).

The meteorological phenomenon maintains a displacement to the northwest at 17 kilometers per hour (km/h), with sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts up to 150 km/h, as detailed by a statement at 09:00 hours (15:00 GMT), time of central Mexico.

Its cloud bands will cause strong rains, between 25 and 50 millimeters, in Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán; as well as showers in Nayarit, between 5 and 25 millimeters.

In addition, the weather authorities expect wind gusts from 60 to 80 km/h on the coasts of Jalisco and Colima, and up to 60 km/h in those of Nayarit and Michoacán.

They also predict high waves, between 3.5 and 4.5 meters on the coasts of Jalisco, Colima and Michoacán, and up to 2.5 meters in those of Nayarit.

The agency warns that rainfall could cause landslides, overflows of rivers and streams, as well as floods in low areas, so it urges the population to follow official notices and abide by civil protection recommendations.

In parallel, the SMN has reported that it keeps its follow-up to the third tropical storm Cosme, located more than 1,000 kilometers south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur; although it rules out dangers for the national territory.

“Due to its distance, it does not generate effects on national territory,” says the SMN.

At the end of May the Tropical Alvin storm pointed out as the first cyclone of the 2025 season, which began on May 15.

Mexico foresees the possible formation of up to 37 cyclones with name in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in the 2025 season, of which five could whip the country. Of that figure, between 16 and 20 systems could be presented by the Pacific Ocean and between 13 and 17 by the Atlantic.

In the 2024 hurricane season, three cyclones hit Mexico through the Atlantic: Hurricane Beryl and Chris storm, in July; and the storm Alberto, in June, when he left six dead in Nuevo León, northern Mexico.

While in the Pacific the coup came with Hurricane John, who touched earth on September 23 as category 3 and left 29 dead in the states of Guerrero, Oaxaca and Michoacán.
