Icaro, Musk, Trump or the rocket of greed

In power runners, where capital and politics usually intertwine, there are those who intend to fly near the sun without measuring the risk of seeing their wings melts.

The incursion of just four months of Elon Musk in the administration of Donald Trump, under the Government Efficiency Department – a tailored to the Magnate called the “King of Multitasking” – leaves a moral that neither the Tesla algorithms could ignore: the state is not a startup nor the nation a risk market.

The tycoon promised to cut two billion dollars of federal spending; It only reduced a tenth of that figure. The administrative chainsaw failed. Prior to his formal farewell last Friday at conference at the White House, he recognized with CBS the severity of bureaucratic machinery: “Frankly, I was disappointed to see that huge bill of expenses.”

Trump admitted “the little unpleasant” that the government can be, of which Musk – who reiterated as a friend – “did not need.”

All under a context of doubts before Eric Trump and Donald Jr.’s meetings with donors or for Ivanka’s links with technological capitals, while administration flirts openly with cryptocurrencies and decentralized platforms.

Who watches those who sit at the power table with one eye in the regulations and another in its digital portfolio?

This episodes illustrate an awkward truth: power should not be given to those who bring with them interests rooted in short -term benefits. Trump’s second mandate houses characters with marked conflicts: businessmen, donors and figures that orbit for financial gratitude.

They contrast, in this scenario, the decisions taken south of the border. Both President Claudia Sheinbaum and the head of government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, have formed policies focused on policies oriented to social welfare, justice, inclusion and equity; where democracy and citizen participation precede political and corporate and business interests. Social commitment and willingness have replaced compadrazgo as a selection criteria.

Musk’s case reflects a reality: it is not enough to have a vision, not even ingenuity, governing requires understanding of institutional balance and an ethical compass free of stock interference. Reaching the space and returning unharmed demands much more than building the largest and most powerful rocket in history, such as the SpaceX starship that in its ninth flight failed again.

Icaro, in his attempt to escape from the island of Crete, used artificial wings attached to his body with wax. He disregarded his father Dédalo’s advice not to get too close to the sun and when the wax lost his plumage and fell into the Aegean Sea.

With Trump and Musk was the rocket … of greed.
