The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), one of the autonomous bodies about to disappear after a reform approved last year, spent more than 1,130 million pesos in software, programs, licenses, technical support and platforms to protect itself from cyber attacks and problems computing, according to documentation in the possession of Forbes Mexico.

The resources were obtained from the Infrastructure and Equipment Fund, a trust created in December 2014 and whose available balance as of September 30 was 1,500.7 million pesos, according to information published on October 15 in the Official Gazette of the Federation.

The trust, in which the IFT participates as trustor, until that date had resources committed to 19 projects authorized to be disbursed in the period 2024-2027, according to the information that the regulator is obliged to publish by law.

At the end of November, the president of the Political Coordination Board of the Chamber of Deputies, Moreno member Ricardo Monreal Ávila, declared that the resources of that trust would have to be reallocated for public works.
