The Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) extended a commercial use concession to Telmex to provide services in high and very high marginalization localities.

With this concession, the company of Carlos Slim’s telecommunications group provides wireless access services for basic residential telephony and through public booths in homes or booths on public roads, data transmission and Internet access.

The extension will be for five years starting on February 5, 2025 and is subject to Telmex accepting new conditions that, if applicable, are established in the draft concession title, the regulator detailed in a statement.

The IFT added that the initial concession title was granted by the then Ministry of Communications and Transportation in 2005.

He pointed out that the main purpose of the concession was to cover localities with low levels of income and a deficit in home telephone services that were far from urban centers and in areas of high and very high marginalization.
