América Móvil said Tuesday in a statement that its subsidiary Radiomóvil Dips (Telcel) was fined 1,782.6 million pesos for alleged monopolistic practices by the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT).

According to the document, the fine dates from an investigation initiated in 2021 at the request of a competitor, by the alleged commission of monopolistic practices relative in the National Market of Distribution and Marketing of SIM cards through chains of convenience stores.

“Telcel categorically rejects having committed the referred practice. This arbitrary and disproportionate fine is based on a competitor and an investigation that was characterized by the partial act and lacking evidence by the IFT investigating authority,” said the company in the statement.

Telcel, he added, “will file all means of defense at its disposal against the abusive research process and this arbitrary fine.”
