At a higher socioeconomic and educational level, women identify digital violence to a greater extent, according to a report from the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT).

According to the regulator, the majority of women users of fixed internet and mobile phones are very concerned about suffering digital violence, but among those with a lower level of education, the concern is less compared to those with a higher level of education.

Users who belong to low socioeconomic levels mention being victims of fraud or extortion, but in general reports of digital violence are rare in this group, while women from higher levels tend to report harassment and insults more frequently. .

The IFT qualitative study found that, among women with higher education, violent behavior online, such as insults or harassment, is more easily recognized, and there is a marked tendency to report it through official means, such as the Cyber Police.

Women with less education showed a more limited perception of what constitutes digital violence and a more passive response, largely choosing to ignore the incident rather than seek legal or institutional support.

The IFT highlighted that, regardless of socioeconomic level or level of education, women take basic precautions, such as avoiding sharing passwords and keeping their social networks private, but protection strategies are more advanced among those with a high level and higher education.

Women with a higher level of education are also more likely to block offensive accounts and review profiles before accepting them, measures that show a higher level of awareness around digital security.

On the other hand, those with less education tend to rely on more empirical actions, implementing preventive measures only when they have already been victims.

Calls for greater inclusive digital education

Given these disparities, the IFT urged greater inclusive digital education that raises awareness about online risks and encourages reporting.

The report also suggested the development of public policies and awareness campaigns to expand access to digital protection and reporting tools for all sectors of the population.
