Rodrigo Almeida, head of the commercial sector of the Brazilian embassy in Mexico, said that bilateral commercial exchange has grown in a remarkable way between both economies, despite which agreement or treaty that protects all goods or allows you to import or export tariff free.

“We went from 10 billion dollars in 2019, to more than 13,500 million in 2024 (O) an increase of 35 percent,” said the representative in the framework of the fifth edition of our International Boards Coparmex 2025.

The automotive and agroindustrial sectors mark the pattern in the bilateral trade between Mexico and Brazil, there is every time a diversification with the acquisition of innovation and technology equipment, the diplomat said.

This diversification of commercial exchange was visible in June 2024, when Mexican Aviation acquired 20 aircraft of the Brazilian company Embraer, he recalled.

“The operation exemplifies the potential for expansion towards segments of high added value and whose first aircraft will effectively be received today by Mexico,” said office manager in Mexico.

There is a high satisfaction because Mexican aviation, in a ceremony with the president of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbuam Pardo and the Brazilian ambassador to Mexico, Nedilson Jorge, receives one of the passenger airplanes

Brasil and Mexico are currently working on the update of the bilateral legal framework with emphasis on the deepening of existing economic cooperation agreements, known as the AC, he said.

“We consider that AC number 53 signed in 2002, which covers 12 percent of the products of our commercial exchange, is not up to the economic relations of the two largest economies in Latin America,” he said.

He added that the extension and deepening of the bilateral legal framework will promote greater productive integration and the strengthening of economic ties between Brazil and Mexico.

An example of this scenario is the complementarity developed between the two countries in the automotive sector backed by AC number 55, he said.

“In that context we work today in a broad and ambitious integration agreement, which is a faithful reflection of the magnitude of our relationship and promotes the strengthening of regional value chains,” said Rodrigo Almeida

During the visit to Mexico, the president of Brazil, Luis Inacio Lula de Silva has clearly and forcefully reiterated the interest of resuming bilateral commercial negotiations, which “are an objective in which we are actively working and we are also very satisfied with also having the support of the Brazilian private sector.”

During the same visit, the Brazil Mexico Business Forum has been made with the participation of large companies from both countries.

“The strengthening of our bilateral dialogue has continued this year with the official visit of the Minister of Finance of Brazil, Fernando Abad, who was received last May with President Claudia Shainbuam,” said the head of the commercial sector of the Brazilian embassy in Mexico.

He added that integration is the natural path for Brazil and Mexico, because “we have the two populations and the two largest economies in Latin America and together we add 65 percent of Latin American GDP,”

The significant investments of Brazilians in Mexico and Mexicans in Brazil are a concrete expression of this shared vision of mutual growth, he concluded.
