The Secretary of Economy, Macelo Ebrard, stated that there are no Chinese companies in the country that produce vehicles, so Donald Trump’s statements are electoral.

“It is an electoral argument, he simply uses it to win votes,” said the official during an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva on Radio Formula this Wednesday.

The Republican presidential candidate assured yesterday that firms from the Asian nation manufacture cars in Mexico to sell them in the United States, so if he wins the November elections he will impose high tariffs on those units.

Ebrard also considered it very unlikely that automotive manufacturers would return to the United States due to the great cost that it would represent to change their manufacturing plans in the short term.

On Tuesday, the Undersecretary of Economy, Vidal Llerenas, also pointed out that there are no Chinese plants producing cars in Mexico and that no cars are exported from that country to the United States.

“There is nothing that he wants to sell, that Mexico is a platform for exporting Chinese cars to the United States, this does not exist (…), there are no cars produced by Chinese companies exported to the United States,” he highlighted in an interview in W Radio with Enrique Hernández Alcázar.
