The head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, announced this Monday that the issuance of the Permanent Driver’s License will return for one year starting in November.

The document will cost 1,500 pesos and the procedure will be carried out in all modules of the Mobility Secretariat.

He explained that the resources obtained will be administered in a public trust that will have no structure, and will be to finance public transportation infrastructure works, non-motorized mobility and a road safety program.

He assured that this change will serve to simplify procedures, combat corruption and will be an economic benefit for motorists, and that it is not an “open letter” to motorists, since there will be public policies that will reinforce the priority for pedestrians and drivers. of non-motorized vehicles, in addition to the fact that a hybrid model for vehicle fines will be announced soon.

He indicated that he will send a reform initiative to the capital’s Congress in order to include this procedure in the local Tax Code and thus launch it next month.

The Secretary of Administration and Finance, Juan Pablo de Botton Falcón, estimated that between 800,000 and one million permanent licenses will be issued during the period, which will represent an estimated collection of 1,200 to 1,500 million pesos.

Requirements and restrictions for the Permanent Driver’s License

The Permanent Driver’s License will not apply to driving a motorcycle, nor for those who have sentences for serious traffic offenses or who have been infracted through the “Drive without Alcohol” program.

People who already have a driver’s license will be able to do the process, and those who do not have one and want to apply for a permanent one must take an exam.

The test will be carried out digitally through the Mexico City Key system and in modules of the Mobility Secretariat, as well as in Pilares and Utopías.

The exam is related to regulations and laws regarding mobility, road safety and type of transportation.
