The president, Claudia Sheinbaum, defended this Wednesday the role of the Armed Forces because they are “the people in uniform” who love and give their lives for the good of the country, as she stated.
In her speech on the 114th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, the first that she commemorated as president, she recalled that the country’s Armed Forces arose to prevent a coup d’état and, therefore, its origin is based on a social revolution.
“They come from the fight for democracy, the defense of the people themselves for their rights and those principles have been maintained to this day. That is why we confirm that the Armed Forces are uniformed people, brave men and women who love their country and give their efforts and their lives for the good of our country,” he said.
Sheinbaum thus led the civic-military parade, her first as supreme commander of the Mexican Armed Forces.
This was the first time that a woman was in charge of the commemoration of the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, an act in which 2,400 elements of the Army, the Navy, the National Guard participated, and where 40% of the contingent was made up of women and 300 children.
The president highlighted the “tradition of struggle” of the people of Mexico, who, she emphasized, has been the protagonist of the country’s transformations.
“We owe him and we serve him,” he said.
He pointed out that since 2018, with the administration of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the country has undergone a “profound transformation” and, therefore, “the entire world views Mexico with admiration.”
He stressed that his Government, which he called the “second floor of the Fourth Transformation of the country,” is based on the “consolidation of justice, democracy, and freedoms to fully achieve the happiness of our people.”
Likewise, he emphasized initiatives of his Administration, such as establishing women’s rights in the Constitution and recovering public companies, such as the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and Pemex.
People’s support
The president affirmed that only with the support of the vast majority of the people can the “great transformation” of Mexico continue.
“We will never separate ourselves from the feelings of the nation, we will never separate ourselves from the people,” he emphasized.

He pointed out that the people are “loving, supportive, fraternal, with working men and women,” not only in the country but “on the other side of the border.”
“Mexican men and women in the United States, our countrymen and women, are heroes and heroines of the country, workers who support their families and the economy of Mexico. But also, that they be heard well and that they be heard loudly, they contribute to the economy of our neighboring country, the United States,” he said.
He recalled that efforts have been made to “recover the social meaning” of the 1917 Constitution, and an example of this was the approval of the reform of the Judicial Branch that seeks to elect judges, magistrates and the Supreme Court by popular vote.
In addition, he announced the integration of the National Guard into the Secretariat of National Defense, the approval of the full rights of indigenous peoples and communities, and welfare programs.
In his participation, the head of Defense, General Ricardo Trevilla, recalled that the Mexican Revolution was a “turning point” to integrate women in the development of the country, which has allowed them to currently occupy positions of “great relevance” in the public life of Mexico.
“Sheinbaum is the first head of state who, with great leadership, assumed supreme command of the military institutions that emerged from the Revolution to serve the people of Mexico,” he stated.
