Mexico City, (EFE) .- The president of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Guadalupe Taddei, denied on Tuesday the use of the voice of the dubbing actor Pepe Lavat in a promotional video generated with artificial intelligence (AI), and said they already prepare an internal protocol to regulate these practices.
“What I can tell you is that the INE did not use a default voice, as well as Pepe Lavat, did not look for a name to resemble, a voice to which to resemble. It is the free and free use of this network (Tiktok) as is happening in all areas of the world in relation to artificial intelligence,” Taddei said at a press conference.
The publication of an INE spot with the emblematic voice in Spanish of the Dragon Ball Z cartoon, interpreted by Lavat, who died in 2018 -caused the guild’s indignation, after the actor’s widow, Gisela Casillas, denounced the use of her husband’s voice without the consent of the family.

Casillas, also dubbing actress, pointed to media that she requested explanations from the INE for the unauthorized cloning of her husband’s voice, of which she retains the legal registry, to which the institute replied: “Well, demand.”
Taddei explained that after an internal investigation in the INE it was concluded that Lavat’s voice was not used intentionally, but using the tools available on Tiktok.
The INE president insisted that “there is an unrestricted respect for the guild” by the INE and that they accompany “even her requests that the issue of artificial intelligence is regulated.”
“That is something that is missing not only here in Mexico or for this case, it is necessary in the world (…) We, of course, accompany and give your hand and have our hand to the guild to work together on this, that could make progress in matters of regulation already legal in our country,” he said.
In Mexico there is still no regulation of the use of AI in products and services, so several members of the artistic union protested in the Mexican capital to demand to curb the cloning and unauthorized use of their voices in commercial or audiovisual products.
