The president of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Guadalupe Taddei, affirmed this Thursday that the organization will carry out “a job of excellence” in the election of the Judiciary next June, despite the budget cut proposed for 2025.

“Professionalism is not only being able to make the election when everything has already been agreed, it is also rethinking, from the Executive District Boards, alternatives that reach the executive directorates and technical units so that they can be taken into account and move forward with this process” Taddei highlighted in a statement about the first national meeting for the organization of the judicial elections.

The meeting brought together members of the 32 Local Executive Boards from across the country, along with those responsible for Electoral Organization, Federal Voter Registry and Electoral Training, among others, to strengthen the coordination, analysis and feedback of the electoral process.

Taddei highlighted that the Executive General Board (JGE) of the INE has the capacity to adapt and transform its processes to innovate in the electoral organization, in the face of the decrease in requested resources.

“We are responsible for the electoral process and I am optimistic that we are going to do it very well,” said Taddei, and stressed that the INE cannot fail to comply with what the Constitution mandates.

Furthermore, he expressed his confidence that the INE staff will face this challenge with serenity and “the prudence to do our jobs without fanfare, but with great forcefulness in operational and technical matters.”

Counselor Dania Ravel highlighted that although there is no reference in the world for the organization of the Judicial Branch process in charge of the INE, intergenerational collaboration in the National Electoral Professional Service will allow us to overcome the challenge.

The meeting occurs in the midst of tensions with the Government for the electoral budget, recently approved for 7,000 million pesos assigned by the Expenditure Budget of the Federation (PEF), compared to the almost 10,000 million pesos requested by the INE.

This budget adjustment represents an unprecedented challenge for the INE, which must implement innovations to guarantee the effectiveness of the largest election in its history, even after the presidential election in June 2024.

On June 1, 2025, Mexicans will choose from thousands of candidates to renew 386 positions of judges and 464 magistrates, in addition to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), which will be reduced from 11 to 9 members.
