Mexico City, (EFE) .- Due to irregularities in the payment of taxes found in a special audit, the General Council of the National Electoral Institute (INE) imposed fines on political parties for approximately 32 million pesos.
In extraordinary session, the counselor and president of the Supervisory Commission, Carla Humphrey, said that the INE ratifies its commitment to accountability, financial transparency and legality in the exercise of financing to political parties.
He said that the supervisable universe included 315 political parties with a registry in force in 2023, divided into seven national political forces, 224 nationals with local accreditation and 84 premises.
The matches with the highest fines were the Labor Party (PT) with 13.3 million pesos and the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), with 12 million pesos and the National Action Party (PAN) with four million.
In the case of the PRI, he said that the party will challenge before the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation (PJF).

Meanwhile, National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), Citizen Movement (MC), the extinct Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) and the Green Ecological Party of Mexico (PVEM) were imposed minimal fines.
Humphrey said that as part of the Audit Methodology the Technical Unit of Supervisory (UTF) asked the tax, social security and local treasury authorities of the 31 states of Mexico and in Mexico City the information on the status of the balances pending taxes for paying corresponding to each political institute of the 2022 and previous years.
He said that 296 error and omissions were notified, 130 meetings were held with the obligatory subjects, 228 political parties met different requirements and 558 accounting corrections were requested, of which 487 were appropriate and 71 were inadmissible.
Additionally, he pointed out that in order to guarantee greater certainty in the inspection, as well as a truly exhaustive analysis, he called all the subjects forced to make the pertinent clarifications within the established formal channels, that is, through the meetings of confronta and punctual attention.
