The general director of the Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit), Octavio Romero Oropeza, assured that in December the unpayable portfolio, made up of 4 million 856 thousand credits, will be fully resolved.

The official explained that of this total, 915 thousand were already supported through discounts on the balance, reduction in interest rate or reduction in monthly payments.

Another 500 thousand loans were served by the “Paga lo Justo” program, focused on recognizing the payment made and adjusting the conditions of those who faced unpayable increases.

Likewise, 1 million 85 thousand credits are part of the “Comprehensive Solution” program, which restructures and adjusts credits to recover their viability.

The remaining 2 million 356 thousand loans will be attended to before the end of December, which will completely resolve the unpayable portfolio by the end of 2025, according to Romero Oropeza.

“The credits in Infonavit until before President López Obrador were unpayable because they were overcharged,” he stated in the morning conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

“We were left with this cursed inheritance of unpayable credits of 4 million 856 thousand that we began to correct from the beginning of the administration on instructions from the President,” he added.

Sheinbaum added that these types of actions reflect a government exercise based on “honesty and righteousness.”

He stated that those who criticize these measures do so because they oppose public resources being used to support the working population and not to favor small powerful groups.

He noted that more than 259,600 homes have been contracted, out of the six-year goal of 1,200,000, a performance that he attributed to coordination with states and municipalities.

Infonavit plans to deliver 4,871 additional homes before the end of the year, distributed in 19 states and 39 municipalities.
