International tourism in Mexico grew 11% in October

Mexico, the sixth most visited country in the world, received 11% more international tourists last October than in the same month of 2024, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported this Thursday.

Just over 8.29 million foreign tourists arrived in the country in the tenth month of 2025, compared to 7.47 million in the same period of the previous year, according to the autonomous body’s report.

International tourists who entered by air accounted for 82% of total entries.

While those who arrived by land were 360,100, which represented 17.8%, marking an increase of 13.3% compared to the same month in 2024.

Mexico will seek to be the fifth most visited country by tourists

In October, total spending by international tourists rose 9.3% year-on-year, going from $2,232 million in 2024 to $2,439 million this year.

However, the average expenditure of each tourist decreased by -1.5% as it was $294.02 in October compared to $298.60 in the tenth month of 2024.

The expenditure of foreign currency by international travelers amounted to 890.0 million dollars, of which 94.4% of the expenditure corresponded to tourists from abroad and 5.6% to border travelers, who spend the night or not in the country.

Despite its sixth position in the world as the most visited country, according to the Government and businessmen based on data from the World Tourism Organization, President Claudia Sheinbaum set the goal of being among the top five.
