International tourism in Mexico grows 13.2% in November

Mexico received 13.2% more international tourists last November than in the same month of 2023, accompanied by an increase of almost 10% in economic income from this activity, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported this Monday.

3.94 million foreign tourists arrived in the country in the eleventh month of 2024, compared to 3.48 million in the same period of the previous year, according to the autonomous body’s report.

The main annual increase occurred in border tourists, which in November grew 33.3 year-on-year to 1.65 million.

Those who arrived by air rose 0.9% to 1.93 million, while the rest arrived by land or cruise ship.

Total spending by international tourists shot up 9.8% year-on-year in November, reaching 2,522.1 million dollars.

In contrast, the average expenditure of each tourist fell 3% year-on-year to $639.6 last November.

International tourism in Mexico sees an increase after November data

The data reflects the upward trend in tourism in Mexico, which received 42.15 million international tourists during 2023, 10% more than in 2022.

Foreign currency income from international visitors in 2023 totaled 28,682.6 million dollars, almost 9% more than the previous year.

The tourism-related economy, which Inegi calls tourism gross domestic product (GDP), grew 7.4% annually in the first quarter of 2024, driven in particular by domestic services and tourists.

Mexico was the sixth most visited country in the world in 2022 and 2023, according to the Government and businessmen, based on data from the World Tourism Organization.
