The International Chamber of Commerce Mexico (ICC Mexico) requested that the new Federal Telecommunications Law preserve the autonomy of the regulatory bodies, and that it promotes a competitive, inclusive and aligned environment with the international commitments of Mexico.

According to the business agency, it is relevant to update the regulatory framework of the telecommunications sector with the aim of strengthening competitiveness, promoting digital inclusion and enhancing the country’s economic development.

Lee: Monreal is confident that Senate modifies telecommunications reform

He urged that the initiative presented by the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum goes through a rigorous technical analysis and a plural and informed dialogue, as well as an open and inclusive parliament.

“We ask the Congress of the Union to ensure an adequate period for the analysis, discussion and improvement of the initiative, given its importance for the most dynamic strategic sector of the national economy,” said the business entity.

He added that the magnitude and impact of the reform requires a serious and detailed evaluation, which considers its possible effects on the investment, competition and rights of users, considering the lessons learned from previous reforms.

“We call to establish an open Parliament process that allows the active participation of experts, representatives of the academic sector, companies and civil society organizations,” he said.

“Only through a transparent, technical and plural debate will be possible to build a legal framework that guarantees sustainable advances in coverage, quality and access to telecommunications services,” he recalled.

“We reaffirm that any reform must ensure the technical, operational and budgetary autonomy of regulatory agencies, in accordance with international commitments signed by Mexico, especially the treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada,” he said.
