Iran’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Saeed Khatibzadeh, said Thursday that the war between his country and Israel “is not the US war”, but that if the US president, Donald Trump, decides to attack, will always be remembered for being dragged to her.
“We believe that this is not the US war, but if they want to enter, President Trump will always be remembered for a war that was not his, but was dragged to her. And this will be a quagmire and a hell for the entire region,” Khatibzadeh said in an interview with the BBC.
Khatibzadeh acknowledged that his government has accepted the invitation of the so -called E3 Group (France, Germany and the United Kingdom) next to the EU to meet with the head of Iranian diplomacy, Abás Araqchí, Friday in Geneva.
“We are very happy that they finally understand that they have to come and talk at the table about matters. And to the Americans we have been constantly sending the message that while the atrocities and attacks on Iranian soil follow (…) we cannot begin negotiations with them,” he said.

He reiterated that his country “has never developed” a nuclear weapons program and do not plan to do it in the future and insisted that Israel launched its offensive precisely to derail negotiations that were “about” to bear fruit.
“Trump knows that (his diplomatic envoy, Steve) Witkoff was sending messages with our Foreign Minister, and he also knows that this genocidal regime and ‘apartheid’ has sabotaged diplomacy for many years,” he said.
Vice Minister Iraní defended that in the face of “foreign aggression” in his country there is now a national unity, so, regardless of whether EU decides to intervene in the contest, the response of the Iranians will be to continue resisting.
“We are exercising self -defense under article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and we will continue this defense until the aggressor learns the lesson that another sovereign country cannot be attacked, with or without knowledge of European countries,” he said.
In spite of everything, he said that his country is committed to diplomacy as the first option, although only from the moment the aggression stops. “
