EFE.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq asked the UN Security Council to force Israel to stop both the war in the region and its threats to attack Iraqi territory in retaliation for the action of pro-Iranian militias.

The Iraqi Foreign Department claimed these points in an official letter sent to the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary General, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) “in response to threats from the entity Israeli attack on Iraq.

Last Monday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar sent a letter to the president of the UN Security Council asking him to take measures “immediately against the action of pro-Iranian militias in Iraq” who have launched dozens of attacks against Israel. .

“Israel has the right to defend itself, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations,” he added without giving more details, although he held the Iraqi Government responsible for what is happening in its territory in reference to the actions of the militias.

“The letter from the Israeli entity to the Security Council is part of a systematic policy to create accusations and pretexts with the aim of expanding the conflict in the region,” indicated the Iraqi Foreign Ministry in its letter to the UN, where it defined Iraq as a “pillar of stability in its regional and international environment.”

The ministry stressed that Iraq’s appeal to the Security Council is due to its interest so that the UN body fulfills its function of maintaining international peace and security, and adopts measures to stop “Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.” and Lebanon, and compel the Israeli entity to end the ongoing violence in the region and desist from issuing threats.”

Iraq ordered this past Wednesday, two days after the Israeli letter to the UN, to pursue any military action carried out by groups that are outside government control, in an allusion to the attacks launched by pro-Iranian militias against Israeli territory.

The military spokesman for the Prime Minister of Iraq, Yahya Rasul, framed that decision in the country’s measures to prevent Iraqi territory from being the scene of attacks against Israel that lead to an escalation in the current conflict in the Middle East.
