Washington, (EFE) .- The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday that Israel accepted a 60-day fire proposal in the Gaza Strip, and expressed his hope that Hamas also accepts the agreement.

“Israel has agreed the necessary conditions to end the high on the 60 -day fire, during which we will work with all the parties to end the war,” said the Republican president on the Truth Social platform.

According to Trump, the Catari and Egyptian mediators, who, he said, “have worked hard to achieve peace,” they will present Hamas “this final proposal.”

“I hope, for the sake of the Middle East, that Hamas accepts this agreement, because (otherwise) the situation will not improve, but will get worse,” he said.

The new proposal of agreement for a truce and the release of hostages in Gaza reaches a few days that Trump receives next Monday at the White House to Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamín Netanyahu.

The US president wants to take advantage of the impulse obtained with the truce in the war between Israel and Iran to also achieve an agreement in Gaza.

According to the American press, the proposal would include a cessation of Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip for 60 days, in exchange for Hamas to release 10 hostages alive and deliver the bodies of another 15.

During that period, both parties would negotiate a possible definitive purpose of the conflict, although the positions of Israel and Hamas remain deeply opposite.

For the Netanyahu government, the end of the war must imply the elimination of Hamas from power and dismantling of its military arm, while the Palestinian Islamist group demands the total retreat of the Israeli troops of the enclave.

Since October 7, 2023, after the attacks of Hamas that killed 1,200 people in Israel, more than 56,000 Palestinians have died and more than 132,000 have been injured by the Israeli offensive over Gaza.
