The flour and another food help will begin this Thursday to some of Gaza’s most vulnerable people after Israel allowed the passage of some trucks, but not far enough to compensate for the shortage caused by an 11 -week block, Palestinian representatives reported.

Israel reported that Wednesday allowed the entry of 100 trucks into the enclave that also transported food for babies and medical material, two days after announcing their first relaxation of restrictions on growing international pressure.

Israel imposed the blockade of all deliveries in March, claiming that Hamas seized deliveries for their combatants, an accusation that the group denies. The United Nations Organization (UN) said that a quarter of the 2.3 million inhabitants of Gaza are at risk of famine.

“Some bakeries will begin to receive flour to produce bread, and we hope that the PAN distribution begins today later,” said Amjad al-Shawa, director of the Network of Non-Governmental Palestinian Organizations in Gaza.

He said only 90 trucks had passed. “During the high on the fire, 600 trucks a day used to enter, which means that the current amount is a drop in the ocean, nothing,” he said.

The bakeries backed by the UN World Food Program would produce the bread and agency staff would distribute it, a more controlled system than before, when the bakers sold it directly to the population at low cost, he added.

“The idea is to try to reach the most needy families, to which they are desperate, since this is just the beginning,” said Shawa.

While the first aid came from the blockade, Israeli military attacks on Gaza caused the death of at least 35 Palestinians throughout the enclave, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli army did not make immediate comments on these information. The Israeli army has repeatedly declared that it tries to avoid civil victims and that its objectives are militiamen.
