The Israeli Foreign Ministry said this Friday in a statement that the Mexican security services prevented a criminal network from attacking the Israeli ambassador in Mexico, an operation allegedly directed by Iran.
In a press release sent this Friday, the Israeli ministry thanked the Mexican security services for having dismantled “a terrorist network directed by Iran” that intended to attack the Israeli ambassador in Mexico, Einat Kranz-Neiger.
The alleged assassination attempt was thwarted in Mexico this summer, reported the American media Axios, which also detailed that the plan to carry out the crime would have been launched at the end of 2024.
In statements reported by the same media, US officials affirm that this alleged plan to assassinate the Israeli ambassador is further proof of “the extensive network” with which Iran operates abroad against “US and Israeli targets”, in this case in Latin America.
According to information from Axios, the operation would have been led by a unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard that for years has recruited agents throughout Latin America “from the Iranian embassy in Venezuela.”
For its part, the Israeli Foreign Ministry stated its security and intelligence agencies “will continue to work tirelessly” in cooperation with other agencies from the rest of the world “to thwart terrorist threats from Iran and its allies against Israeli and Jewish targets.”
