The Government of Japan sent aid to Mexico for those affected by the extraordinary rains (almost two weeks ago) and the subsequent floods in five states, which so far have left 76 dead and 31 missing in addition to damage to roads, infrastructure and some 100,000 homes.
“Today, the Government of Japan has decided to send emergency aid to Mexico, in support of the victims of the floods that affected five states in the country,” the ambassador of the Asian nation in Mexico, Kozo Honsei, noted this Monday in a message on social networks.
“I hope that people soon find relief and recover. Mexico and Japan, friends in adversity,” he added.
In a statement he published alongside his message, Honsei indicated that Japan has decided to provide emergency aid (including hygiene items) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency in response to the damage caused by the floods in the five states, in accordance with the request made by his government.
“Taking into account the humanitarian perspective and close friendly relations with the United Mexican States, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to support those affected by the disaster,” the note noted.

This Monday, President Claudia Sheinbaum assured that her Government continues in the urgent care phase after the rains and floods in eastern and central states of the country, but announced that she is already preparing a national reconstruction plan in which 10,000 million pesos will be invested.
“The first estimate is 10,000 million pesos of direct support for people, to recover schools, clinics, employment, building the future. There are resources to address the emergency,” said the president during her morning press conference.
Sheinbaum assured that they continue working to respond to the emergency “there are still communities, localities that do not have the land crossing and we continue working, cleaning the homes and guaranteeing the recovery of communication,” he noted.
He explained that more than 52,000 people participate in the relief efforts between the Armed Forces, the Federal Government, state authorities and volunteers.
Sheinbaum explained that the official strategy is made up of four axes: emergency response, direct support for affected families, reconstruction and strengthening of the risk warning and prevention system.
