Jimmy Kimmel said he requested Italian citizenship because Trump’s presidency is “much worse” than he once thought it would.

In an episode of “Kimmelrah Silverman Podcast,” Kimmel said he obtained Italian citizenship because “what is happening (with Trump) is as bad as one thought. It is much worse; it is simply incredible.”
Kimmel said in an event in June covered by the Italian news agency ANSA that it requested Italian citizenship after demonstrating their ancestral lineage.
He said his great -grandparents emigrated to New York from Ischia, an island in the Gulf of Naples, after an earthquake kill “most of the family” in the late 1880s.
Kimmel’s comments occurred after Silverman said that “many people I know” are thinking of trying to obtain citizenship in another country.

Several liberal celebrities have threatened to leave the country after Trump’s choice and some have really done so: Rosie O’Donnell moved to Ireland and Ellen Degeneres to England. O’Donnell, a frequent criticism of Trump, moved in January and said he is working to obtain citizenship. He said he misses “many things from life there at home,” but will not return until “it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in the United States.” Degeneres spoke about his move for the first time in July. She and her wife, Portia de Rosi, arrived in England the day before the elections, but said they decided to make the permanent move after Trump’s choice. He said that if they revert the laws of same -sex marriage, she and Rossi could marry again in the United Kingdom.
Other celebrities who have said they have considered moving due to the 2024 elections include Sharon Stone, Cher and Barbra Streisand. British actress Sophie Turner said she knew it was time to get out of the United States when the ROE case against Wade was annulled, also citing the magnitude of armed violence in the country. Actress Lena Dunham said in 2016 that she would move if Trump won her first elections, but then retracted. “I can survive staying in this country, my country, to fight, live and use my abundance of blessings to do the right thing,” he said. He currently lives in London.

Kimmel frequently attacks Trump in monologues in “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” And he made fun of him while presenting the academy’s awards last year, to which Trump responded in an interview in Fox News: “This guy is even darker than he thought,” said the president about Kimmel.
