A federal judge in Florida dismissed this Friday the demand for defamation of 15 billion dollars filed by Donald Trump’s government against The New York Times.
Judge Steven D. Merryday, of the United States Court for the Middle District of Florida, described the demand of 85 pages as “decidedly improper and inadmissible,” according to the judicial documents to which Efe had access.
He explained that it does not meet the federal requirements of clarity and conciseness established.
The lawsuit accused the newspaper of Dead and Slander on a large scale, claiming what articles and a book published in 2024 harmed the image of Trump and his presidential candidacy.
According to the New York Times, Judge Merryday considered that the demand of 85 pages presented by the president was excessively extensive and unclear. He pointed out that Trump’s lawyers waited until page 80 to formally raise the accusation of defamation, after dedicating dozens of pages to praise towards the president and a long list of complaints.
