The National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges of the Judicial Power of the Federation (JUFED) accused the Secretary of Citizen Security, Omar García Harfuch, of making accusations without evidence against federal judges in order to divert the attention of international pressures.

In a statement, Jufed categorically rejected the official’s statements and assured that they seek to discredit the work of the Judiciary.

“Security and justice in Mexico are not contracted with speeches that seek to delegitimize the Judiciary or attempts to weaken institutions, but attacking the causes, actions that have not been carried out, until the denunciation of a foreign government,” he said.

The note maintains that García Harfuch’s accusations on alleged agreements between judges and drug lords lack evidence and are part of a strategy to divert the attention of alleged irregularities indicated by the United States government.

His position occurs after García Harfuch admitted yesterday at a press conference that the 29 Mexican drug traffickers were extradited by the risk of being released by judges or that their extradition processes were delayed.

“The security cabinet has information that there was a risk that some of these objectives requested by the United States government were released or continued to delay their extradition processes derived from agreements with some judges that sought to favor them as already done on other occasions and for many years,” said García Harfuch.

“That is why Jufed insisted that the statement that there are agreements with judges to favor illegal interests is absolutely false and lacks any probative livelihood, since any accusation has been submitted to date.”

He also demanded respect for jurisdictional work and asked the representatives of the Executive Power to conduct themselves with responsibility and attachment to the Constitution.

“The unfortunate conditions of insecurity in which millions of Mexicans live have not been because of the actions of the judges, but for direct responsibility of the authorities,” concluded Jufed.

In addition, he reaffirmed his commitment to justice and the rule of law and encouraged the head of security to act through legal ways of existence irregularities in the actions of judges, since he even emphasized that the Judiciary will proceed without exceptions to find an alleged irregularities.

“Under such conditions, in a rule of law it is conducive is to go to the corresponding instances,” he insisted.

This difference occurs in the midst of the implementation of the judicial reform it intends, on June 1, to choose half of the judges and magistrates of the Mexican Judiciary, as well as the nine new ministers of the Supreme Court, among other organs, which has also fueled the discussion about judicial independence in the country.

To this context, the pressures of the United States, the main commercial partner of the country, are added to combat drug trafficking especially of fentanyl, as well as migration, in the middle of threats to impose 25% tariffs on Mexican exports.
