(Reuters) .- Fourteen Federal Judges and Exjeces presented a petition before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) to obtain a “comprehensive reparation for the violation of their human rights” caused, as they affirm, by a recent judicial reform, a group that represents the magistrates reported in a statement.
The broad constitutional reform of the Judiciary, approved in September, was a historical change for the courts at all levels.
It implies that voters go to the polls to choose judges, magistrates and ministers of the Supreme Court in two stages, in June and again in 2027.

The critics of the reform claim that it threatens the political independence of the Judiciary, blurring the separation of powers and exposing it to the influence of external forces such as organized crime.
The IACHR, Autonomous Organ of the Organization of American States, will not be able to repeal the reform, but its decisions are of symbolic importance.
The criticisms of the reform, promoted by the ex -president Andrés Manuel López Obrador and who has the support of President Claudia Sheinbaum, his ally, they arrive at a delicate time for administration, who sails for commercial tensions with Washington.
The Sheinbaum office did not immediately respond to a request for comments on the petition, but the government has repeatedly argued that the reform is necessary to eradicate corruption within the judiciary and make it more democratic.
“This petition offers an opportunity for the Inter -American System to address the alleged violations of judicial independence in Mexico and broader issues related to the processes of judicial reform in the region,” said Jaime Chávez, deputy executive director of the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice, which presented the request on behalf of the judges.
“This reform, under the appearance of neutrality, constitutes in reality a mechanism of politicization and capture of the judiciary,” says the petition.
