Kennedy Center: Trump added to signage

Workers on Friday added President Donald Trump’s name to the facade of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a day after the center’s board voted to rename the institution as the “Trump-Kennedy Center.”

Trump has taken control of the famed institution, having appointed the Board of Trustees that voted for the name change in February and naming himself chair. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday that the board “voted unanimously” for the name change, though that claim was contested by Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, an ex officio member of the board.

Workers on Friday were seen apparently affixing Trump’s name to the building behind blue tarps in front of where the Kennedy Center’s current signage is. The Kennedy Center’s website was also updated on Thursday, where the name now reads “The Trump Kennedy Center.”

Renaming the center after Trump may face challenges, however, as the building was named by Congress. Changing the statute officially would require congressional action.
